Serapi / 11969

This Serapi is woven in wool with a warm red ground, ivory and cream spandrels and a navy, geometric border. A bold central medallion and stepped motifs are enlivened by pale blue and soft green accents, the ornament showing measured restraint and clear graphic structure. Wear is low, with gentle abrash and an even, time-softened surface that reads as patina rather than loss. The piece is an antique rug with composed scale and strong graphic presence. Circa 1880 - 1900. Measures 315 x 427 cm, a proportion that foregrounds the medallion and border architecture.
