An expansive Serapi in softened, sun-faded tones, this antique rug balances bold geometry with an aged surface texture. A large lozenge medallion commands the centre, surrounded by stylised palmettes, leafy sprays and cream spandrels, all held within a warm brown guard border. Woven in wool, the pile has settled into a supple patina; even abrash and medium wear reveal warm neutrals beneath the red field, enhancing depth and nuance. The motifs retain confident clarity where fibres have softened, offering a tactile presence shaped by time. Circa 1880 - 1900. Measurements: 366 x 538 cm.
