A refined Serapi in wool, this antique rug measures 300 x 386 cm and reads in a muted neutral colourway, ivory ground, warm terracotta and slate-blue accents. The layout centres on a commanding medallion surrounded by scrolling floral arabesques and articulated corner spandrels, contained by a broad floral border. Low distress and subtle abrash allow the motifs to remain distinct while offering a softly worn surface and tactile depth. Circa 1885 - 1905, the rug balances formal geometry with a lived-in patina, an honest example of Serapi craft. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
