An elegant Sultanabad in wool, 290 x 427 cm, this antique rug pairs a pale ivory centre with a broad red border. Large palmettes and curling arabesques move across the field in blush pink, muted ochre and soft blue accents; the hand-spun wool displays gentle abrash and low, even wear that preserves a soft tactile pile. The generous crimson margin, worked in floral meanders, contains the open centre and reinforces the rug’s classical geometry, the colours mellowed by age to a harmonious, heritage palette. Circa 1900 - 1920. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
