A Sultanabad in wool, 343 x 404 cm, this antique rug presents a prominent elongated central medallion within a rich red ground. Gold and neutral tones articulate scrolling palmettes, corner spandrels and a broad floral border, each motif spaced with classical clarity. The condition is characterised by low wear and a refined surface patina; faint abrash animates the red colour without compromising the design. The overall proportion and ornamentation suggest a late nineteenth to early twentieth century weaving, offering measured age and formal poise. Circa 1920 - 1935 The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
