This Sultanabad shows an ivory field enlivened by a sinuous floral vine and a compact star-like central medallion in indigo, cream and muted blues. A broad indigo border frames the field, punctuated by repeating cartouche motifs with calligraphic ornament. The wool has developed a soft, tactile patina and displays minimal wear, allowing layered colour and gentle abrash to remain legible. Circa 1895 - 1910. This antique rug, measuring 396 x 531 cm, reads as an archival example of measured composition and sustained craft, with a calm, collected presence. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
