A Sultanabad in wool, this antique rug presents a broad neutral ground with repeating palmettes and rosettes in brown and gold, composed in a steady lattice. A floral meander border frames the centre, motifs mellowed by low, even wear and a warm, aged patina. The fibre retains a tactile pile with subtle texture, the colourway calm and architectural. Low distress keeps the design legible while introducing a gentle softness to the surface. Circa 1880 - 1895. Measurements: 267 x 340 cm. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
