A Gharabah in wool, this antique rug measures 206 x 297 cm and pairs a saturated red and soft pink field with an expansive cream border enlivened by roundel motifs. The dense floral-lattice repeats with refined restraint, the colourway showing subtle abrash that reads as patina rather than damage. Low distress preserves a supple surface and a tactile hand. Circa 1890 - 1910. The layered guard borders and compact motifs speak to a disciplined vocabulary of pattern; the result is a quietly worn piece with palpable craft and heritage, and considered proportion.
