A classic Kashan in a restrained garden vocabulary, this antique rug measures 198 x 290 cm. The ivory field presents a central vase with ascending flowering sprays, fine palmettes and an indigo floral border in tones of soft blue, rust and sage green. Woven of wool, the piece shows low wear with a mellowing of colour and delicate abrash that emphasises texture and hand. Borders and motifs remain finely resolved, the overall impression one of crafted restraint and quiet age. Circa 1885 - 1915. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
