This Kashan carries a red central medallion on a neutral ivory ground, the field filled with dense arabesque vines and stylised floral motifs. Warm browns and measured red accents enliven a soft wool pile that shows low wear and gentle mellowing, revealing an even, tactile surface. A sequence of richly patterned borders, guard, main and outer, articulates the edge with palmettes and rosettes in measured repetition. The effect is of patient craft and preserved detail in an antique rug of considered scale. Circa 1890 - 1910. Size: 267 x 361 cm.
