Tabriz Haji Jalili displays a central floral medallion on a warm russet field, edged by an intricate indigo floral border and an ivory centre cartouche. Knotted in wool, the red, navy and neutral tones have mellowed into gentle abrash while the design retains crisp definition. Filigreed palmettes, scrolling arabesques and a concentric rosette attest to measured composition and considered craft; pile shows low, even wear and a tactile surface. This antique rug reads as quietly aged and materially honest, an object of patient making. Circa 1900 - 1915. Measures 330 x 406 cm.
