The N.W. Persian is a compact wool antique rug with a repeating floral lattice set on a deep blue ground, punctuated by red and gold rosettes. At 320 x 442 cm this example shows low wear and an even pile, with slight abrash that enriches the field and borders. The intimate scale of the linked blossoms produces a disciplined geometry that nevertheless feels hand-touched and soft to the eye. The wool fibre has a warm patina and quietly luminous colour, a considered expression of age and craft. Circa 1885 - 1915
