Afshar antique rug, 94 x 102 cm, woven in wool with a deep navy field set against madder red, rust, ochre, ivory, and teal. The lattice composition arranges stylised boteh forms into a balanced, repeating pattern, finished with multiple geometric borders that give the design definition and restraint. Its softened colours and worn surface bring forward the tactile character of an antique rug, while the slightly irregular edges and fringe speak to age. Circa 1900 - 1920, this Afshar reflects the compact scale and distinctive visual language of village weaving.
