This Afshar antique rug measures 135 x 160 cm and reflects the tactile restraint and graphic clarity often found in village weaving. The cream ground is worked with repeating geometric motifs in rust red, charcoal, and muted blue, all enclosed by a detailed border of medallion-like forms and smaller angular ornament. Low distress leaves the composition legible, while softened colour and light wear lend the piece an aged, honest character. Circa 1885 - 1915, it holds a quiet rhythm between pattern and open ground, with an antique presence that feels measured rather than ornate.
