This Khotan antique rug in wool, measuring 358 x 551 cm, combines a blue ground with purple, burgundy and neutral notes, all gently mellowed by visible wear. The field is organised in an allover meandering lattice, with octagonal medallions and a series of finely worked borders that sharpen the composition. Soft abrasion and faded passages give the surface a calm, timeworn presence while preserving the rug’s intricate patterning. Circa 1900 - 1925, it reflects the balanced geometry and decorative density associated with Khotan weaving. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
