This Chinese Peking antique rug in wool measures 353 x 444 cm and settles into a calm palette of cream, beige, blue, white, and soft brown. The composition pairs an open field with a small central medallion, then surrounds it with scattered floral details and a finely worked border of blossoms and vines. Medium wear and visible fading have mellowed the colour, leaving a supple, time-softened surface with plenty of character. Circa 1900 - 1915, it reflects the composed floral language and understated refinement associated with classic Peking rugs. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
