A Khotan of quiet geometry, this antique rug (211 x 396 cm) pairs a pale beige ground with a vertical sequence of circular medallions and dispersed floral-geometric guls. Handworked in wool with a palette of warm red, soft pink and muted gold, its surface shows low distress and subtle abrash, creating a velvety worn lustre that rewards touch. Multiple narrow guard borders contain the field while stepped corner motifs give structure to the composition. Circa 1900 - 1915. The overall effect feels considered and tactile, an object where colour and craft have gently mellowed.
