A compact Needle Point wool panel, 56 x 56 cm, this antique rug holds a small figural scene set within scrolling florals and stylised birds. The colouration, cream, pale pink and warm neutrals with faint grey-blue accents, has mellowed through heavy wear; thread loss and frayed edges lend a soft abrash across the surface. Circa 1865 - 1880. The fibre reads low and painterly, the imagery preserved as a timeworn vignette that emphasises texture and the object’s aged character. A restrained, tactile study of decorative narrative and subtle colour. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
