An Esfahan in muted tones, this antique rug measures 107 x 165 cm and presents a compact study of classical medallion work. A central star medallion unfolds into an arabesque field of floral motifs; the colourway blends warm gold, cream and white with neutral grounding tones and fine abrash. Medium wear has mellowed contrast and given the wool a soft, aged surface. The outer border's repeating floral cartouches provide a steady frame for the centre. Circa 1950 - 1975. The piece reads as a considered balance of proportion, texture and time-worn restraint.
