Aubusson, 213 x 315 cm, shows a formal cartouche with a scallop motif and paired floral baskets suspended by tasselled swags. The wool construction carries a rich burgundy field relieved by cream, pale blue and rose tones that shape the scrolling acanthus and the elegant border frieze. Wear is low, the surface exhibiting a soft patina and slight abrash that lends depth to the painted floral work. The overall effect is refined and historically aware, an antique rug that balances formal ornament with delicate, tactile colour. Circa 1885 - 1905.
