An Aubusson in wool, this antique rug pairs a cream central field with pink rococo cartouches and painterly rose sprays on a muted neutral ground. The floral centre and corner bouquets are modelled with soft gradations of colour and a restrained, hand-painted sensibility that speaks to 19th-century atelier designs. Wear is low and even, giving a gentle patina that accentuates the depth of the colours and the crispness of the scrollwork. The scale and proportion remain intact across the field and borders.
