Measuring 178 x 335 cm, this Khotan shows a repeated pomegranate vine motif in muted red-orange on a pale cream ground, the wool pile softened and timeworn. A sequence of geometric guards and floral bands in warm brown and neutral tones frame the central field with studied restraint. Softer abrash and medium wear give the surface a mellow, tactile finish; the short ends are characterfully frayed. Circa 1900 - 1915. This antique rug reads as a studied exercise in colour and texture, its worn surface revealing the slow geometry of traditional Khotan design.
