A wool Sivas with an ivory scalloped medallion resting on a muted red ground, this large antique rug shows fine floral vinework that extends into shaped spandrels and layered borders. The cream centre, soft tan accents and neutral ground create a considered, antique palette where motifs breathe within the field. Wear is low, with a gentle surface mellowing and subtle abrash that lends a lived-in depth to the colours. The proportion is 300 x 442 cm, the pile retains a tactile softness and the borders remain well defined. Circa 1900 - 1915. This is a study in restrained provincial refinement.
