This Kerman carries an elegantly faded palette of creams, soft blues and warm neutrals, rendered in wool with a dense floral arabesque and scrolling palmettes. The borders repeat a refined floral meander that frames an allover field of rosettes and curving vinework; medium distress and even abrash have mellowed contrasts and produced a powdery, near-watercolour quality. The surface reads as tactile and worn, the pattern still articulate beneath a soft nap. Circa 1915 - 1930. 262 x 353 cm. As an antique rug it reads as a quiet study in age, materiality and the craft of handworked wool.
