A restrained wool Sivas rendered in white and cream, with a quietly luminous centre and softened floral arabesques. At 221 x 325 cm the composition is dominated by a faded medallion and elongated cartouches, surrounded by layered borders that have mellowed with time. The piece shows high distress, pronounced abrash, worn edges and threadbare areas, giving it a tactile, timeworn patina. Pattern survives as a delicate ghost of its original drawing, the pile low and supple beneath the wear. This antique rug reads as an architectural, heritage object that holds the traces of use and age. Circa 1895 - 1915
