This Sivas in wool shows a restrained, neutral ground enlivened by muted red and sage highlights. An allover field of palmettes, rosettes and scrolling vines forms a calm, symmetrical repeat that has softened with age; the bordering floral cartouches remain slightly more resolved. Surface wear is moderate and evenly distributed, producing a supple, low pile and subtle abrash across the colourway. The piece reads as a considered antique rug, its worn clarity and tactile surface evoking long use and careful preservation. Circa 1900 - 1920. Exact size 305 x 366 cm.
