This wool Khotan is an antique rug of considered restraint, its deep brown field punctuated by a vertical chain of lozenge medallions and a cream floral border. Rust and gold highlights with accents of cobalt bring quiet punctuation to the hand-drawn motifs while repeating hex forms enliven the field. The piece shows low distress and subtle abrash that give a worn, tactile character without loss of clarity. Retaining intact fringes and even edges, the rug measures 190 x 351 cm and conveys a calm, heritage sensibility. Circa 1900 - 1915.
