This Mallayer antique rug measures 140 x 287 cm and presents a subdued, atmospheric composition in rust, brown, ivory, taupe, and charcoal. A faint central medallion effect sits within a weathered border, while traces of geometric ornament emerge at the edges and settle back into the field. The surface is heavily worn and softly faded, which lends the rug a layered, almost brushed quality. Circa 1900 - 1930, it has the grounded presence of an antique rug, with colour softened by time and a quietly textured finish. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
