This Mallayer antique rug, measuring 97 x 490 cm, has an elongated, architectural composition that reads with quiet formality. Repeating medallion motifs travel down the centre field, framed by slender borders and softened by a palette of neutral brown, cream, white, and faded grey-green. The surface shows medium distress, with broad wear, gentle fading, and areas of abrasion that give the rug a layered, aged finish. Circa 1900 - 1915, it offers the restrained symmetry and worn elegance often found in antique Mallayer rugs, while retaining enough pattern to hold the eye across its full length.
