This Mallayer antique rug measures 102 x 389 cm and has a refined, stretched composition with a quietly architectural feel. A repeating lattice of rounded forms runs through the field, now softened into a palette of white, cream, taupe and muted grey. Layered geometric borders frame the centre with delicate rhythm, while the high distress gives the whole piece a washed, timeworn surface. The ends and edges show visible age, adding to its character rather than diminishing it. Circa 1925 - 1940, it is an antique rug shaped by fading, restraint and an elegantly worn finish.
