This Mallayer antique rug measures 358 x 470 cm, with a large, softened field rendered in cream, white, faded blue, muted red, and taupe. The composition is organised by repeating small-scale arch motifs across the centre, then enclosed by layered borders and narrow patterned guards that lend definition to the worn surface. Medium distress is visible in the faded field and abraded pattern, creating a beautifully muted, timeworn character. Circa 1900 - 1920, it reflects the quiet formality and patina associated with aged Mallayer rugs, while remaining visually airy and texturally rich.
