This Mallayer antique rug, measuring 107 x 480 cm, presents a long, slender field in softened aqua, cream and brown, with touches of muted rust woven through the design. An allover floral lattice and small geometric medallions run across the centre, set within a slim floral border that holds the composition in balance. The low distress preserves much of the drawing while allowing a gentle wash of age to settle over the surface. Circa 1880 - 1900, it carries the quiet character and layered ornament often found in a well-aged Mallayer rug.
