This Mallayer antique rug, measuring 104 x 511 cm, is composed with a long, formal field and a layered geometric medallion arrangement. Wool in brown, blue, neutral, white and cream has mellowed into a gentle, worn surface, with stronger contrast surviving at the borders and quieter tones through the centre. The slender floral border and outer guards frame the composition with clarity, even as age has softened the finer details. Circa 1915 - 1945, it reflects the grounded character and lived-in surface of an antique rug. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
