This Mallayer antique rug measures 124 x 178 cm, and carries a layered geometric composition with a stepped central medallion, diagonal corner fields, and a finely worked floral border. Wool in blue, cream, white, and restrained neutral tones has softened into a worn, atmospheric surface, with medium distress visible across the field. The contrast between the deep blue centre and paler abrash-like fading gives the rug a lifted, hazy quality. Circa 1920 - 1945, it reads as a quietly expressive piece with the patina and visual depth associated with age.
