This Mallayer antique rug measures 117 x 188 cm and shows an ordered field of repeating geometric motifs set against a deep indigo ground, lifted by coral, ivory, pale aqua, and sand tones. A floral border surrounds the composition, adding a softer ornamental frame to the disciplined interior pattern. The wool surface reads with a lived-in, timeworn texture, with visible fading, abrash, and softened edges that enhance its aged character. Circa 1880 - 1895, it reflects the understated elegance and graphic clarity often found in Mallayer weaving. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
