This Mallayer antique rug measures 165 x 391 cm and carries the long, elegant format associated with the type. An ivory ground frames a tall stepped medallion in indigo blue, rust, and muted rose, surrounded by delicate floral ornament and layered borders with repeating vine and boteh details. The wool surface is heavily worn, with broad areas of abrasion that soften the pattern and give the rug a pale, atmospheric presence. Circa 1880 - 1900, it retains a composed geometry beneath the distress, offering a subtle balance of ornament, wear, and heritage.
