This Mallayer antique rug measures 366 x 671 cm and pairs a restrained light border with a densely patterned centre in blue, green, rust, and ivory. The allover floral design is worked in small, repeating motifs, with scrolling vine elements and palmettes that give the surface a layered, steady rhythm. Medium distress is evident in the worn field, softened colour, and mottled fading, which bring out the texture of the wool. Circa 1925 - 1945, it has the quiet complexity and timeworn surface associated with a well-aged antique rug. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
