This Mallayer antique rug measures 399 x 617 cm and carries a deeply softened composition of medallion forms, floral cartouches, and an enclosing border with classical rhythm. Wool lends the surface a grounded hand, while the palette of cream, ivory, faded peach, soft blue, charcoal, and muted navy has mellowed through visible wear. Strong distress has blurred the drawing in places, leaving a layered, painterly effect that feels restrained and lived-in. Circa 1920 - 1940, it balances ornate structure with an aged, understated presence that remains distinctly legible. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
