This Mallayer antique rug measures 269 x 498 cm and carries a layered composition of elongated diamond medallions, softened by time into a restrained palette of neutral, white, cream, and green. The outer borders remain more defined, with floral details and narrow bands framing a field that has settled into faded coral, rust, and muted blue. Wool gives the surface a tactile, lived-in character, and the high distress adds depth without losing the rug’s underlying structure. Circa 1920 - 1940, it feels quietly architectural, with age marking every section of the design.
