This Mallayer antique rug measures 300 x 490 cm and presents a softened field of interlaced ornament, faded medallion forms, and a quietly structured border. Wool gives the surface a tactile, grounded quality, while the palette of cream, brown, taupe, and muted blue-grey has mellowed into a subdued, tonal whole. Medium distress is visible in the worn areas and gentle abrasion across the drawing, which lends the rug a layered, timeworn character. Circa 1900 - 1930, it reflects the visual calm and patina often associated with a finely aged Mallayer.
