This Mallayer antique rug measures 353 x 505 cm and presents a softly eroded floral field, where the pattern reads in layers of ivory, taupe, warm brown, charcoal and muted gold. Woven in wool, it combines an allover lattice with a framed border of scrolling vegetal detail and a restrained central medallion that surfaces through the age wear. Medium distress brings tonal variation across the surface, with a pleasingly faded handle and softened edges. Circa 1900 - 1935, it has the settled character and decorative clarity associated with Mallayer weaving.
