This European antique rug in wool measures 244 x 320 cm and presents a spare, graphic field with understated presence. Along the upper edge, layered bands in brown, cream, white, and deep navy create an abstract horizon, while a single irregular dark line traces through the open neutral ground below. High distress has mellowed the colour and softened the contrasts, leaving a weathered surface with visible tonal variation and gentle irregularity at the edges. Circa 1950 - 1975, it feels both contemporary in spirit and grounded in its age. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
