This Mallayer antique rug, measuring 208 x 483 cm, carries a dense floral composition in muted gold and brown, lifted by ivory and soft taupe highlights. The elongated field is organised by a refined border and guard borders, with stepped medallion and cartouche motifs giving the design a calm architectural rhythm. Circa 1900 - 1920, the surface shows medium wear and gentle fading, allowing the wool pile to read with a softened, layered finish. It has the quiet presence of an aged rug, where pattern, colour and wear sit together in an elegant, well-balanced whole.
