This Mallayer antique rug measures 218 x 503 cm and shows a dense allover composition in brown, cream, white, and soft beige, set within a slender border threaded with floral and geometric detailing. The field is finely patterned and closely resolved, giving the design a textured, mosaic-like quality, while the border keeps the composition neatly contained. Wool lends a tactile, softly aged finish, and medium distress is visible in the muted contrast, gentle fading, and worn character across the surface. Circa 1885 - 1900, it has the calm, accumulated presence of a well-aged antique rug.
