This Mallayer antique rug measures 140 x 196 cm, and it shows the poised contrast and ornament associated with the type. A deep red field is organised around a large diamond medallion, while cream spandrels open into scrolling floral branches with accents of blue, gold, and white. The outer border adds a strong geometric cadence, with repeating motifs that hold the composition together. Woven in wool, the surface has a softly worn handle and a gently faded finish. Circa 1920 - 1940, it reads as collected, expressive, and full of historical texture.
