A Mallayer wool rug, 183 x 353 cm, composed as an even all-over floral lattice in faded coral, sage and ivory tones. The design is framed by narrow guard borders of scrolling vine and small rosettes; the pattern has been softened by broad abrash and low pile. Small patched repairs and rubbed areas are visible and add to the rug's honest, lived-in surface. The wool retains a tactile, settled hand and a muted colour quality that reads architectural and quietly composed. This antique rug offers layered patina and restrained, thoughtful scale.
