A Mallayer medallion in wool, this antique rug balances coral-red centre work with deep navy and teal fields, the palette softened by sympathetic abrash. The composition is classical yet intimate, a central medallion framed by scrolling floral vines and scalloped cartouches, with layered borders carrying repeated palmettes. Wear is modest and even, preserving the rug’s sculpted surface and original depth of colour; edges are sound with only slight fringe loss. The piece reads as a quietly aged textile with tactile presence. Circa 1880 - 1895. Measurements: 196 x 297 cm.
