An elongated European wool runner with a subdued, almost tonal palette, 117 x 470 cm. The field has softened to pale grey-green and warm beige, the central lozenge chain forming a faint spine towards the centre. Narrow geometric borders and small rosettes have been worn into whispering pattern under a high level of distress; abrash and softened pile give the surface a linen-like texture. The wool fibre retains a tactile presence despite pronounced wear. This antique rug carries its age with restraint, the distressed surface integral to its composition. Circa 1905 - 1925
