A compact Shiraz woven in wool, this antique rug presents a linked hexagonal medallion run across a warm red field. Neutral and ivory reserves articulate angular lozenges while small geometric fillers and stepped motifs enliven the ground. The colour range is principally red, neutral and brown, showing restrained abrash and depth from natural dyes. Wear is low and the pile reads tactile; multiple narrow guard borders organise the composition and offer crisp framing. Fringe and edges remain confident, with handmade irregularities visible at the margins. Circa 1880 - 1910. 122 x 175 cm.
