An Amritsa woven in wool, this antique rug presents a muted cream field with pale gold tracery and a measured central medallion. Arabesque foliate scrolls and a broad cartouche border are softened by gentle abrash and medium wear, lending the surface an even, low pile and quiet lustre. The restrained colourway and absorbed patina emphasise craft and time rather than ornament. Circa 1900 - 1935. Measurements 305 x 330 cm. The overall effect is composed and tactile, a study in subtle line and faded colour. The softened surface retains a quiet, tactile character shaped by time.
